"The job of an educator is to teach students to see the vitality in themselves." - Joseph Campbell
Carol Hazzard is the founder of Hancock Street Preschool, and also the beloved teacher of the Red Class. She has been teaching for 30 years; 25 of them preschool. She has also taught first grade, working with high risk and culturally diverse students; tutored individual children; and consulted other educators. She is an advocate for children outside the classroom as well, volunteering her services for various programs. Carol's inspiration to found Hancock Street Preschool was a result of her involvement in her own children's co-op, where she served on the board of directors for most of the six years her three daughters were in school. She has continued to teach at Hancock because she loves the shared joy of nurturing and guiding the children - and their parents - within the preschool community.
Sandy Hodge teaches the Blue Class. She is a credentialed teacher who has worked for 20 years in early childhood education. Her classroom experience includes preschool, kindergarten and first grade. She has worked in a variety of settings including a Head Start classroom, a program for children with special needs, and classrooms in both private and public schools. Sandy's appreciation for the value of co-ops began as a parent when her two daughters attended a local co-op preschool. She loves the sense of community that is fostered for both children and adults in the co-op setting, and she feels fortunate to spend her days with children who allow her to be a part of their natural enthusiasm for wondering, exploring, and creating.
