“There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
Dear current and former HSP families,
I began teaching at Hancock Street Preschool in 2003. How lucky am I! For the past seventeen years, I have spent my days with children --- who live life (and help the adults around them live their lives) as though everything is a miracle! I have had the privilege of standing beside dedicated and supportive family members who have enriched the lives of all HSP students. I have had the honor to work with two amazing women, Carol Hazzard and Becky Brink, who were not only wonderful teaching partners, but also dear friends. I’m so grateful for our HSP community that will always hold a place in my heart.
Often, someone asks me when I will retire. My answer is usually, “when it stops being fun or when I’m needed back East with extended family.” Well, it definitely has NOT stopped being fun. However, as some of you know, my younger sister Julie in Virginia has been diagnosed with stage 4 appendix cancer. I will be retiring at the end of the 2019/2020 school year, so that I can spend more time with my sister and our extended family.
I am happy to announce that Becky Brink will continue to teach at HSP. She will also be assuming the role of Educational Director. Becky is a warm, dedicated and competent educator, who is loved by both kids and families alike. The HSP mission will remain:
Hancock Street Preschool (HSP) is dedicated to excellence in early childhood education, providing a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum with meaningful real-world experiences. HSP promotes an environment which encourages creativity, curiosity and community, and embraces the role of life-long learner for children and adults. HSP is committed to a strong home-school partnership, honoring the diversity of our families and welcoming the uniqueness of each individual.
The HSP Board will begin the process to hire Teacher Becky’s teaching partner. If you are interested in serving on the hiring committee or if you know of a candidate who may be interested in the position, please email president@hancockstreetpreschool.com.
In closing, thank you all for your support, and for understanding the need to keep conversations about this transition outside of the classroom. For the remainder of this school year, I would like to be fully present for my preschoolers (who will continue to teach all of us how to live life like everything is a miracle!).
Love and peace to you all, Sandy
